Nov 6th, 2015

On the occasion of the President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma’s visit to Germany in November 2015, the South African Embassy in Berlin, together with Mc Kinsey, is hosting a ‘Symposium on Youth Skills Development and Employment Creation’.

Development cooperation in the area of Skills Development and TVET between the two countries has a long history. Currently, the main programmes, implemented by GIZ on behalf of BMZ, focus on: (i) Skills development and employment, (ii) Entrepreneurship, (iii) Green economy.

The 2-day symposium takes place in Berlin from 9-10 November, 2015. It focusses on four core topics for the creation of youth employment:

  • Dual education;
  • Education for employment;
  • Youth employment agency;
  • Entrepreneurship and small business development.

The symposium intends to provide a platform for expertise exchange between the German public and private sectors and the South African delegation, and includes round tables and the visit of a training centre.

High-ranking participants are expected, among them President Zuma and several South African Ministers, as well as senior representatives of several German Ministries, and Ambassadors.
